Their vision includes a healthy environment, safe sources of water, and harmony in their communities. Instead of allowing mining companies to devastate their pristine environment, many are pursuing different methods of economic growth. They have chosen to grow organic coffee, and we have chosen to support them on their quest.

…and Cloudforest was perfect. Double shot of espresso had a nice texture, a good crema on top and was well balanced.
Our coffee is cultivated in the Rio Intag region of Ecuador. Located on the western slopes of the Andes, the Intag is one of the last remaining coastal rainforests in Ecuador. All of our coffee comes from AACRI, a cooperative that was formed to help the coffee farmers improve their livelihoods. We buy our coffee directly from the farmers, with no middle-men, to ensure they get the best possible price for their coffee.
We now have five roasts: golden, medium, espresso, dark, extra dark. We have grown the number of roast profiles to showcase how many different tastes you can get out of the same single origin coffee bean. Do you love fruity light roasts? Try the golden roast! Do you prefer daringly bold brew full of chocolatey goodness? Try the extra dark!
We started with just the medium and dark roast, to keep things simple and to showcase how different the same coffee can taste. The medium roast is a sweeter, brighter flavour profile with hints of caramel, nuts and amaretto. When we roast the coffee darker a wonderful chocolate flavor develops.
The communities of the Rio Intag region of Ecuador have been resisting against mining companies for over 20 years. They have educated themselves about the risks to the environment posed by large scale open-pit mining, and have decided that it’s not the best development strategy for their community. They started an organic coffee cooperative to show that their can be other types of development in their region that are more sustainable than mining. We started Cloudforest coffee to help sell their coffee in Canada and to use the coffee as a vessel to tell the story of a community striving to create a sustainable and prosperous future without destroying the environment.
